General Care
All wood finishes—no matter how durable—will naturally wear over time. This is part of the beauty and character of wood. Depending on how frequently you use your item, some pieces may require regular maintenance to preserve their appearance and strength, helping them last a lifetime.
Important Handling Tips
Never put wooden items in a dishwasher. High heat, detergent, and water will permanently damage the wood.
Avoid placing items in direct sunlight, near heaters, fireplaces, or any other heat sources. Sudden changes in temperature and humidity can cause cracking or warping.
Ideal storage humidity: around 60%.
Cleaning Instructions
Kitchen Boards, Bowls, and Utensils
Hand-wash only with mild dish soap and warm water. Avoid soaking the item.
If needed, gently scrub with a soft dish brush to remove food debris from the grain.
After washing, immediately dry with a clean towel, then air dry in a well-ventilated, shaded area for at least 12 hours.
Note: Wood is sensitive to moisture — drying is more important than washing.
Pepper Grinders and Other Wooden Products
Wipe with a dry cloth or soft brush to remove dust and debris.
Do not get the mill wet, as water can damage both the wood and the grinding mechanism.
For stubborn buildup, use a small dry brush to clean around openings.
Restoring and Oiling
All of our wooden products are finished with natural oils:
Items used for food (e.g., cutting boards, utensils) are treated with Haarlem oil and beeswax.
Decorative items (e.g., fruit bowls, vases, incense holders) are best maintained with Osmo Top Oil.
Over time, the surface may lose its smoothness and sheen. To restore:
Apply a thin layer of Haarlem oil or Osmo Top Oil.
Let it dry in a well-ventilated, shaded area for 2 to 14 days, depending on temperature and humidity.
The item is ready to use once fully dry and cured.
Safety Note: Cloths used to apply Haarlem oil can spontaneously combust if not handled properly.
Lay them flat to dry completely, or soak them in water before safe disposal.
Helpful Tip: Raised Wood Fibres
After repeated washing, you may notice the surface becoming slightly rough—this is a natural response as the wood fibres raise with moisture. To smooth:
Lightly sand with 400–600 grit fine sandpaper.
Reapply a thin coat of oil to restore the original smooth texture and finish.
With simple, regular care, your wooden piece will age beautifully and continue to bring warmth and character to your home for many years to come.
